An Easy Guide for Creating a Fun and Delicious Lunchbox

Lunch, like any meal of the day, is very important for your child’s growth, development and their cognitive ability. This is why it is very important to create a healthy yet delicious lunch that will excite their taste buds, be high in vitamins and minerals and keep them full throughout the day. Yet, all of these requirements can be overwhelming to fulfil - especially if your little one is a fussy eater. Below, we have put together an easy guide for creating a fun and delicious lunchbox.
Choose a ‘main’ made from a mixture of carbohydrates, vegetables and protein
It may sound more complex than it actually is, but it is important to make a savoury ‘main’ dish that your children should go to first. This could be a sandwich, wrap, or pasta salad - and this is a great way to introduce a combination of vegetables and protein. Recipe ideas include a chicken, avocado and tomato sandwich, a salmon, pea, spinach and courgette pasta salad, or a falafel, avocado and lettuce wrap.
Create a healthy snack box
A main simply won’t be enough to satisfy your child's little tummy which is why a healthy yet delicious snack is essential. Choose some low-salt crisps and then create some tasty finger food with chopped cucumber, carrots, apple and tomatoes for extra dosage of vitamins. Alternatively, you could create a sweeter fruit box too with raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and grapes.
Add a pudding or sweet treat
It is no secret that little ones love sweet treats, and whilst this should be enjoyed in moderation, a small sugar boost can be great for getting them through a jam-packed afternoon of lessons or nursery activities. At home on the weekends, you could create a healthier low-sugar brownie or flapjack to place in their lunchboxes or, for ease, place two chocolate biscuits in their lunchbox.
Keep them hydrated
A healthy way to keep your children hydrated is to use low sugar fruit squash or create your own flavoured water with berries, citrus fruits and seed fruits. This means that they will drink plenty of water throughout the day, needed for maintaining energy levels and a generally healthy body, yet they will also be drinking something delicious too! Alternatively, cartons of milk are also great for creating that ‘full’ feeling and contributing to the upkeep of their calcium levels.
