Pre-School (3 to 5 Years)

Our Pre-school setting consists of two large rooms as well as a separate small group area, two fantastic outside spaces that allow for physical activities, alongside anything that can be achieved indoors which can also expand outside via the large exits. This is the perfect place for developing an understanding of the natural world in our garden/mud kitchen area.

Sandfield Day Nursery use “In the moment planning” as well as adult-led activities, which gives the children the opportunity to build and construct with a wide range of objects. They have free choice from a large range of resources that allows them to expand their learning. The favourite saying in this room is “school ready” and this is very important as it is now believed that the foundation from 0-5 is the grounding for further learning opportunities.

The main room is arranged into separate areas. There is a book corner, there is a wide variety of books that allow children to expand their use of language and literacy, The maths area helps with problem solving, reasoning and numeracy, our natural area allows for science and nature. We also have a creative area, a music corner and home corner with dressing up. In addition, there is a themed area that supports learning about the environment such as travel agents, vets or doctors’ practice.

The children also have the opportunity of expressing themselves and communicating their ideas through a wide range of materials and other suitable medias, giving them the chance to create and develop independence ready for school.

We aim to develop positive values, self-confidence, and independence, well -paced activities provide the children the opportunity to question, discover, experience, experiment and explore everything we have to offer them.

Activities are evaluated in the Pre-School Room: children are regularly observed so their next stage of development can be supported and encouraged. Children are helped to take more responsibility for their actions and their daily routines ready to prepare them for school.

Children enjoy listening to and using spoken and written language and readily turn to it in their play and learning, they can use language to imagine and re-create roles and experiences. The children start to form good relationships with adults and peers, work as part of a group, taking turns, sharing fairly and they begin to develop respect for their own cultures and beliefs and those of other people. The children find out about their environment, identifying features in the place they live and the natural world.
