About Us

Our team plan and support activities to encourage each individual child’s unique talents. We give a great deal of time and attention to designing activities that are both fun and educational. We know that you only want the best for your children in all areas of life which is why here at Sandfield Day Nursery, we work alongside parents and carers to provide an enriching, stimulating and caring environment for all children.

We understand that the young people under our care are just getting started in life and they need lots of help, guidance and encouragement as they embark on their new life adventure. Whilst children need to learn how to communicate and work as a team, they also have individual ambitions, dreams and personalities that require a tailored learning experience. We are a day nursery that gives your child the skills they need to make the most of learning through play, whilst embracing their unique talents that set them apart.

We focus on the four themes of the Early Years Foundation Stage to do this:

The Unique Child – is constantly learning through play and adult support, becoming resilient, capable, confident through nurture and supportive play. Through observations and assessments practitioners enable children to develop a positive self-image.

Positive Relationships – Every child is designated their own key person to encourage them to build positive relationships this is crucial as children who feel safe develop strength and independence.

Enabling Environments – Children are supported to lead their own child initiated activities with support by providing them with exciting environments both inside and out.

Learning and Development - As children learn in different ways, it is important for adults to track the children's individual behaviours, here at Sandfield Day Nursery we use an online tracker that parents can have accesses to.

Sandfield Day Nursery is in the heart of a diverse community and caters for a variety of cultures. Our equal opportunities policy ensures that we value individuals and participate in celebrating many occasions to teach our children the importance of making positive contributions within society.

In the toddler and pre-school rooms we encourage the children to choose activities around their interests each day, inside and out. This is known as in the moment planning. This way the children can pursue their own learning interests and staff can assess and move the learning on, in that moment.

We use the Early Years Foundation Stage to ensure the seven areas of development can be obtained by a variety of stimulating resources with practitioner support.

The three prime areas are:

Communication and Language – We provide an environment for young children to express themselves, speak and listen in a range of situations which allows them to develop in this area.

Personal, Social and Emotional – We help the children to shape their social skills and develop an understanding of their own and others feelings.

Physical – We provide many opportunities for children to be active, eat healthily and understand the importance of doing so.

From the age of two we introduce the four specific areas of learning which are:

Literacy – Children are provided with a variety of books, taught phonics to link sounds and letters together, and have access to mark making materials each day.

Mathematics – We provide children with the resources and opportunities to develop and improve their skills in counting, understanding, using numbers and calculating simple addition and subtraction problems. They are also encouraged to discuss shapes, spaces and measurements.

Understanding the World – We teach children to use the environment around them to explore, observe and discover places, people, technology and make sense of the world around them.

Expressive Arts and Design – We provide children with many media and materials to explore and play as well as providing opportunities for them to share thoughts and express their feelings through art, music, dance, role-play, movement, design and technology.
